8th September

Pre- production and production:

Today I were set up as groups to tell a short simple story using multiple shot types and different angles. My group which consisted of 3 people, including me, decided that the best idea was to have a person who lost their phone, and is worried about losting it. This shows the emotions of sad and happiness. I took about 6 different shot types, but filmed them about 3-5 times each to make sure I had a good footage for editing.

I started off with a high angle shot from 2 different angles - side and front.

That so when I edit I could edit both of those in and make a smooth looking scene. It also shows emotion on her face which is happiness.

Straight after we went and got some more medium shots, Extreme close ups, we found that the reflection of Ella on the phone would make a reall good shot, also it was a low angle but also an extreme close up. The motion of her walking away from the phone made it more dramatic, and although its a simple story it made her have more emotion to the story

It was decided after to add an over the shoulder shot so I could keept the variation of sht as its the point of this short project. This was quite a good shot, as it kept a variation throughtout the short. It also showed more of the location and it adds to the short.

I made a few close ups of the phone so the audience can see what she is doing, the reason they need to see her action of putting the phone in the pocket is because otherwise they would be confused of how the phone fell out and it won't be detailed, the audience needs to know what is going on in the shot. Also we did other close ups of her trying to find her phone in her pockets and trying to look for it.

Editing:

For editing I used premiere pro.

After I chose the shots from the many I took, I had to cut and move around with many shots so they all run smoothly. It took me a while to get it all to not run without random jumpcuts, but after focusing closely on the shots I cut them up nicely and tidyed them so the whole short looks natural.

The title was quite a struggle, as at first it was too simple and not animated.

I used Adobe after effects so that I could animate my title and make it very professional looking.

Sound:

For the sound we were asked to do foley sounds which is sounds made after the recording to use over it using normal everyday items, I used it as an ambience sound and also some things in the scene that could've mad noises, such as water bottle, phone dropping, stepping osunds, leaves rustling or anything in between. The first recording was a struggle as the wind was way too loud and some sounds didn't pick up nicely, after a couple of recordings we finally got it to sound right. I put it all together in the edit so everything looks smooth and right as if it was recorded at the time of the film shooting.

In class we also looked at a foley sound artist so we could see how it worked, what I've noticed is that timing is important, if the timing is wrong then the whole footage looks wrong, you also have to be creative with everyday objects as they can all sound like different things.
