Aperture

The aperture is the hole in the lense. The light travels through it. The larger the aperture the more light comes in.

ISO

The ISO is the level of sensitivity of your camera to available light.

Shutter Speed

Shutter speed is the length of time the camera shutter is open to expose light into the camera sensor.

Measure in fractions of a second.

White Balance

White balance is the adjusting the colour

of the image so it looks natural.

There is a huge difference in colour temperature between bright sunlight and indoor tungsten light.

Balloon short

For our second week we given a task to do, which consists of having different shot types and an object, we had to white balance and make sure we had good lighting for the different type of shots.

I made sure I enough shots for my edit and made the lighting good for the 30 shots I took.

My idea was simple, just have them standing there with the balloon, having an expression or their face for the emotion we had to choose from in which which chose a bit of both.

After I took the shots, I edited the footages together with the original sound, but I found out as there are some sounds are too windy so I decided to edit the sound a bit so we would have a surrounding.

The music was a struggle as I couldn't find anything to put in the background.

180 degree rule

I also filmed my 180 degree shot which follows the 180 degree rule which means that there usually are 2 people and it shows the over the shoulder of one as it shows the face of the other.

On my short we didn't have more than one person so I decided to make the character hold the balloon as if its a person.

Next time I will make it so its not a balloon but a person

Motion tracking

For a part of the short where the balloon moves, I was taught to do keying in motion tracking so that the text moves along with the ballon. My motion tracking wasn't as good as I wanted it to be so I'm gonna try again so that I could get it to run smooth.

After a while of figuring out how to key each frame, I finally got it to look the way I wanted to.
